    • What It Is: An instance template is a resource that defines the configuration of a VM instance, such as machine type, boot disk image, network settings, and more.
    • Usage: Instance templates are used to create multiple VM instances with the same configuration quickly and easily. They’re particularly useful in auto-scaling scenarios and in managed instance groups.
    • Relation to Others: Instance templates are a blueprint for creating VM instances. They don’t hold actual VM data or state but define how a VM instance should be configured.
  4. Snapshot:

    • What It Is: A snapshot is a backup of a disk at a particular point in time. It captures the contents of a VM’s disk but not its configuration or OS.
    • Usage: Snapshots are used for data backup and recovery. They’re helpful for protecting against data loss and can be used to restore a disk to a previous state.
    • Relation to Others: Snapshots are related to VM instances in that they back up the data on the VM’s disk. However, unlike machine images, they don’t capture the entire VM’s configuration and state.

    • Images: An image is a more comprehensive capture of a VM, including the disk data (like a snapshot), the operating system, and the VM configuration. This makes images suitable for replicating or cloning the entire VM.
